Greetings! 2021 is turning out to be an eventful year so far. Not only have we hit the ground running with new construction projects, but we have also been concentrating on disaster repairs in response to February’s winter freeze. Additionally, we have exciting news to share about the ReStore – a new Online Shopping experience!

HABITAT HOME GROUNDBREAKING
On February 26th, Habitat for Humanity Board Members, staff, and special guest, City Councilman Ben Molina, held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Habitat home being built on Nogales Street. This is the 59th home to be constructed by Habitat for Humanity Corpus Christi since its establishment in 1989. Habitat for Humanity is currently accepting homeowner interest screenings and will be holding scheduled information sessions for those that qualify. The cement slab has been poured and the lot is being prepped for framing. We are now welcoming any volunteer groups that would like to participate in the construction. WINTER STORM URI RECOVERY EFFORTS
The second week of February brought with it severe winter weather and torrential damage for some homeowners caused by sub-freezing temperatures. Many residents were left with no power or water for days. Habitat for Humanity Corpus Christi was blessed with several grants from The United Way and TSAHC for funding to help the community’s most vulnerable recover, as well as a generous donation from Beto O’Rourke’s founding organization – Powered by People. To date, 15 homes have been repaired and 10 additional homes are currently under construction. If you would like to get involved by donating towards repairs and/or by volunteering, please reach out to us.
2021 SPRING FUNDRAISER
Thanks to the generous support of many businesses in the Coastal Bend, Habitat for Humanity Corpus Christi was able to hold a successful raffle fundraiser. Fourteen prizes were distributed to winners of the raffle from beach and hotel packages to restaurant gift cards and memberships. Pictured here are two of the lucky winners, Mike Burris who won the Botanical Gardens membership and Maria Castillo who wone the Rock-n-Rolls Sushi Gift card. Thank you for supporting our Spring fundraiser.
AN ONLINE RESTORE SHOPPING EXPERIENCE
The Habitat ReStore now has a more convenient way for customers to shop – online! The Online ReStore went live in February. New items are uploaded every day. Another convenient feature of our Online Restore is a delivery option. Customers throughout Aransas, Kleberg, Nueces, and San Patricio counties can have their items delivered for a small fee of $25 within Corpus Christi city limits and $50 outside of the city limits.
SNEAK PEEK OF WHAT IS TO COME….
Habitat for Humanity Corpus Christi has expanded into San Patricio county. Later this month, we will be launching new repair programs in San Patricio and Nueces County. Construction for Habitat Home #60 here in Nueces County will soon begin and we will be partnering with various community organizations to help provide disaster preparation resources as we head into Hurricane Season. We are also on the hunt for the perfect site to relocate our Habitat offices and Restore.
